Growing up!
You know how they say "Age is nothing but a number"? I don't know if that's really true. Anyways we are moving again! I'm kind of stressed out about it. Bigger place, more expenses. So discussing it with friends to process and someone asks me "but is it safe? You can't just think about yourself anymore, you might have kids and they might want to go outside to play.."
When people say these things to me, it makes me really angry and unhappy and frustrated. First of all, what is the definition of a "safe neighborhood"? How do we love people and share the gospel if we live in a "safe neighborhood"?
I remember when I was attending my previous church, many of us were passionate about saving the world and reaching out to inner city communities. But I noticed something. Most of us didn't live near the church, and many of us were scared to even walk down the street. But I always wondered how can we share the gospel with people when we are scared to talk to them? scared to walk or eat or sit with them? We didn't share anything with them. And eventually our church meeting location changed to a "safe neighborhood".
Furthermore, I've lived 95% of my life in an area that isn't considered safe. But it hasn't affected me negatively in anyway. If anything it has made me stronger...
